Culture Club: Beauty and the Beast

I recently stumbled over the lovely illustration work of a Hong Kong based artist Peony Yip, better known as The White Deer.  Her minimalist portraits of young women, rendered in pencil and superimposed with animals, explore the relationship between human and nature.  Don’t we all have a little bit of animal nature inside – wolf’s fierceness, tiger’s strength, deer’s gentleness, ….

Behind the Jewel

From time to time, we get requests from customers who want to design something special and unique.  Recently, we had the lovely KT at our studio to personally design a bracelet for herself.

Her Story

KT is a very cool girl with a great sense of style.  She’s an adventurous world traveler,  an aspiring DJ, a student, ….  Some of her favourite brands are Parisian labels like Maje and Carven.

Her Jewel

She picked out an ornate crown-shaped vintage piece with blue rhinestones and a small pearl from the 50s, paired with a light blue and metallic cord.  Then she selected three charms – a yellow stone skull, a silver skeleton fish, and a small vintage amber rhinestone.

I joked with her that her bracelet reminded me of the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean.  But it is kind of fitting, and truly reflects a little bit of KT’s personality – adventurous, fun, edgy, and still classic.

We are inspired by the woman who wears jewelry to express her own individuality, and we hope our jewelry inspires you to find your own.

If you are interested in designing a piece that tells your story, send us an email anytime, or message us on Facebook.

Culture Club: Palace Jewel

The Würzburg Residence in Würzburg, southern Germany, was commissioned by the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn and his brother in 1720, and completed in 1744.  The building embodies the attainments of Western architecture of its day, French château architecture, Viennese baroque and the religious and secular architecture of northern Italy and is a synthesis of the arts of astonishing universality.

You might not live in a lavishing palace, but you can certainly dress like a royalty.

Style Inspiration – Floral Part II (Pants)

Instead of a floral dress, try a pair of pants.  During NY fashion week, floral print pants are spotted all over the city.  I really like how chic and modern they can look.

1. Print – All floral patterns are pretty – abstract, vintage, artsy, etc.

2. Fit – Slim ankle length fit is easier to pull off.  But you can also try the super-wide palazzo shapes.

3. What to Wear It With – Team statement pants with clean, sharp basics or tailored pieces like a utilitarian jacket or simple blazer.

4. Shoes – Wear sky high booties, color block sandals, or simple pumps.

5. Accessories – For extra style kudos, wear a statement necklace like Olivia Palermo.

Style Inspiration – Romantic Floral

Floral prints are feminine, romantic, but also edgy and fun.  Black will always be black.  But every now and then, take a break from it, and put on a floral piece.  🙂

Casual Friday Style

What do you wear on a casual Friday to the office?

Try adding a cool brooch to jazz up a simple classic navy blazer, and pair with a casual tee and jeans.  You are ready to finish the work week with a stylish and office appropriate look.  Casual Friday does not have to be frumpy, or overly casual.  Remember, last impression is just as important as your first.
