Minimal Meets Maximal

I was going through some photos we took in the past.  This one really stood out to me – friends from LA took the photo at Brix in Yaletown.  This picture really shows how a great piece of jewelry can transform a simple outfit.

Cloverdale Antique Market (closing soon)

I went to the Cloverdale Antique Market in Surrey, BC with my friend, Jay, today.  Due to the economy, the market decided to close its door at the end of February.   We went there to see if we can find some bargain deals.  Most things are 20 – 50% off and the clearance sale starts this Saturday.   Unfortunately there weren’t much jewelry, however, I did buy something pretty cool – guess what it is (mine is all the way at the bottom)?

Jay bought this beautiful antique telephone from the 50s and the silver plate.  Sorry my photo is a bit out of focus here.

Okay, here is what i bought – a white metal MILK CAN!  I am going to use it as an umbrella stand.  Since it rains so much in Vancouver, this is a cool way to keep all my umbrellas organized.  It’s actually Jay’s idea, but since he didn’t buy it, I had to (haha)!

InStyle.com – 10 Things Every Women Should Own

Just read about the 10 Things Every Women Should Own on InStyle.com. Star stylist Nicole Chavez who collaborates with celebrities like Rachel Bilson, Kristen Bell and Scarlett Johansson picked out 10 key pieces every woman should have in her closet.

  1. Black Blazer
  2. Leopard Print Scarf
  3. Red Flats
  4. Striped Shirts
  5. STATEMENT NECKLACE – I couldn’t agree more with what Nicole said:  “I believe in having basics in your closet and playing with your accessories. The statement necklace can make a simple outfit look strong and feminine.”
  6. Little Black Dress
  7. Black Opaque Tights
  8. Oversize Watch
  9. Classic Trench
  10. Flared Jean

I checked my closet and here are my 10 (-1) pieces.  The only item I don’t have is #8, but our vintage watch band Eva bracelets (Eva XIV in the pictures below) is a great alternative.  🙂

Celine wool black blazer – a well tailored quality black blazer is an investment must;  Theory LBD – great for office and night out; Leopard print scarf from Winners; Red pointy patent flats from Browns Shoes; and Givenchy black opaque tights.

There are so many statement necklaces to choose from ROCAILLE.  Here is just one example – Cara necklace , a bold necklace can add a sense of confidence and femininity to my LBD.

Rhea brooch – I love accessorizing my blazers with a cool regal style brooch to give it a preppy look.  Here’s a sneak peek of one of them from our brooch collection (coming soon).

Burberry trench coat – a classic piece that never goes out of style; Polo striped shirt; J Brand flare jeans from 4 years ago.

Antoinette necklace – a long statement necklace adds some glamour and fun to this casual look.

Best of Golden Globes Jewelry

This year the Golden Globes came alive with color – emerald green, feminine pinks, festive metallics and sultry reds.  Sparkle came in diamonds, diamonds and more diamonds.  The big earring look and layered wristwear were the popular choices with a few whimsical surprises.  Which one is your favourite?
.
Glee‘s Dianna Agron added extra sparkle to her shimmery beaded J. Mendel gown with a Cathy Waterman platinum and diamond fairy mesh collar necklace.
.
Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland topped off her neutral crystal-embellished Max Azria gown with a pearl-accented diamond Mikimoto necklace.

Helen Mirren wore a stunning Cartier 55 carat diamond necklace worth more than 1.6 million dollars and Badgley Mischka gown.

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria pinned two Neil Lane diamond and platinum wave brooches onto her classic black Zac Posen dress.

Glee star Jessalyn Gilsig accented her eggplant jacquard David Meister gown with colorful Chopard jewelry. The exquisite white gold teardrop earrings boasted 53 carats of multi-colored sapphires and 17 carats of diamonds.  Her floral bracelet was made with 282 carats of pink sapphires set in white and rose gold.

The most creative jewelry wear goes to Julianne Moore – her Lanvin gown was held up by a Bulgari choker necklace with 79 carats of diamonds.

The Closer star and Best Actress nominee Kyra Sedgwick added stacks of gold bangles and gorgeous gold drop earrings to her bright mango chiffon Emilio Pucci gown.

Halley Berry showed off plenty of leg in a black Nina Ricci gown. All the better to draw attention to the Harry Winston diamond bracelets on her wrists.

Sandra Bullock chose a tough, oxidized sterling silver chain cuff with pave and rose cut diamonds – a perfect contrast to her feminine blush Jenny Packham gown.

Mad Men’s Elizabeth Moss was radiant in a green satin Donna Karan dress with a pair of stunning Lorraine Schwartz draped earrings.

Leighton Meester looked charming as always in a Burberry gown and Cathy Waterman earrings.

Glowing Natalie Portman showed off her blossoming figure in a pink silk Viktor & Rolf gown accessorized with a Tiffany & Co. multi-row diamond necklace set in platinum.

Jennifer Lopez‘s sleek ponytail was the perfect hairstyle to show off her dazzling Iconic Diamond Cluster earrings by Harry Winston, which are worth $2.8 million.  She dazzled in the white draped Zuhair Murad gown with a sheer capelet embroidered with crystals.

Nicole Kidman paired Fred Leighton 19th-century black onyx earrings and a 1920s turquoise & black enamel brooch (which looked like a microphone…lol) with her creme Prada dress.

Catherine Zeta Jones in Monique Lhuillier and Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry.

Tina Fey looked lovely with her gorgeous Lorraine Schwartz sapphire earrings and her L’Wren Scott gown.

My favourite jewlery goes to Claire Danes’ 1970s-era Fred Leighton gold and diamond cuff, a perfect compliment to her minimal modern Calvin Klein pink halter dress.

Runner up goes to Christina Aguilera’s fabulous Lorraine Schwartz bracelet/ring.
